The prevalence of phishing scams is at an all-time high. With you being the key to preventing a cyber attack within your organization, it is important to question the legitimacy of every email you receive. Below is a list of questions to ask yourself about the date, time and subject of the email that may help you realize that you are being phished.
DATE: Analyze the timing of the email.
- Did you receive an email that you would normally get during regular business hours, but it was sent at an unusual time, such as 3 a.m.?
SUBJECT: Review the subject line.
- Does the subject line make sense given the context of the email?
- Is the email message a reply to something you never sent or requested?
If you notice anything about the email that alarms you, do not click links, open attachments, or reply. You are the last line of defense to prevent cyber criminals from succeeding and making you or your organization susceptible to phishing attacks.
Stop, Look, and Think. Don’t be fooled.
